Endingen am Kaiserstuhl town council
Conception of a new visitor guidance system for the city centre of Endingen am Kaiserstuhl
February 2025 to August 2025
The town of Endingen am Kaiserstuhl is located in the south-west of Baden-Württemberg, near the French border, and belongs to the district of Emmendingen. Over the centuries, this historic town has developed into an important cultural and economic centre in the Kaiserstuhl region. Particularly striking are the well-preserved old town with its picturesque half-timbered houses, the imposing town gate and the pilgrimage church of St. Martin, which is considered the town's landmark. In addition to its historical significance, Endingen is also known as a wine-growing centre and attracts numerous visitors every year.
The project kicked off in February 2025 with a detailed inventory of existing tourist signage. The existing signs were recorded and documented in real time using a GIS system. Together with the client, all pedestrian visitor sources and relevant POIs for the future guidance system were then identified and prioritised.
On this basis, TourComm developed a comprehensive signage network linking the relevant pedestrian sources with the defined POIs. This enabled central hubs to be identified and locations for the signage elements to be strategically determined. In the Endingen urban area, the focus is on highlighting tourist attractions, while in the districts of Amoltern and Kiechlinsbergen, the emphasis is on the visibility of local wineries. All elements of the concept were developed with the aim of achieving maximum accessibility.
The concept and proposed signage now form the basis for the practical implementation of the new guidance system, which the city plans to roll out from 2026 onwards.
