Rheinfall Tourguide

  • Client

    RIVI Gastro AG

  • Task

Development of a digital guide all about the Rhine Falls in the Swiss canton of Schaffhausen

  • Project period

    February to March 2025

Description

A pilot project to digitally enhance the Rhine Falls as a destination, which was implemented in collaboration with RIVI Gastro AG between February and March 2025, is now live. Visitors will be able to use their smartphones to find their way around Neuhausen am Rheinfall, Schaffhausen and the region south of the Rhine Falls, and to read and at times listen to useful information about attractions, car parks and public transport in five languages. The guide, which serves as an extension of the Rheinfall Ticket website, makes it easier for visitors to find their way around while increasing the visibility of partners associated with the project.

Project scope and implementation

The main objective was to help visitors to the Rhine Falls to better find their way around. This was done by featuring the various offerings of the partners involved in the project, including the RIVI Skyfall viewing platform, Smilestones Miniature World, Schiffmändli boat trips and the RIVI Express. Working closely with RIVI Gastro AG, we integrated 38 POIs at and around the Rhine Falls into the ‘Rhine Falls guide’, a handy digital tour. This was the first time we used AI to generate foreign-language audio clips in their entirety. The original texts were first translated into English, French, Italian and Spanish using DeepL and then converted to audio using text to speech. The guide’s home page also includes flip tiles presenting fascinating facts and information about upcoming events in the area.

Features and benefits

The MAQNIFY© Guide all about the Rhine Falls has a number of features designed to enrich any visit to the canton of Schaffhausen. In addition to presenting the various POIs, the web-based app includes a number of audio clips that were generated using text to speech. The German and English versions are also played on the RIVI Express, the local trackless train. Users can filter content by category, including ‘experience’, ‘information’ and ‘parking’. Images of the many POIs help bring the location to life. Flip tiles are interactive elements that serve to illustrate facts about the Rhine Falls. The integrated DeepL interface enabled the provision of all content in the web-based app in five languages: DE, EN; ES; FR and IT.
